Course Description

Special Needs Assistant is a purposely designed course to prepare you for work as a Special Needs Assistant (SNA) in a variety of educational contexts and community care settings.

Our course explores a wide range of knowledge and practical skills that support a productive career. You will be able to prepare for a career as a Special Needs Assistant in primary and secondary school classrooms or special schools, supporting children with everyday practical tasks.

This course can provide you with access directly to employment, and it also serves as a platform for further study in applied social studies, social care, and early childhood care and education.

Entry Requirements:

  • Candidates must be in a position to obtain Garda Clearance.
  • Candidates must supply two written references (character, work, or educational).
  •  Students must source this work experience placement themselves.
  • Successful consultation with the course coordinator.

Progression:

Learners who have successfully completed this award could expect to find employment in primary, secondary, and special schools. This award facilitates entry on a competitive basis through the CAO to a range of third-level institutions nationwide leading to awards at a higher level on the National Framework of Qualifications. It also serves as a platform for further study in applied social studies, social care, and early childhood care and education.
