Course Description
The purpose of this award is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work independently and as part of a team, subject to practice supervision, as a member of the early learning and care community of practice, providing holistic care and learning experiences for children from birth to six years across a range of early learning and care settings. This award also provides the learners with the opportunity to progress into further and higher education and training.
It is an ideal course for both school leavers and mature students seeking the qualifications necessary for employment in the childcare sector.

- Children’s Rights, Legislation and Regulation
- Professional Practice Placement in ELC (150 hours placement)
- Two placement settings: Birth – 2.8 years and 2.8 years – 6 years.
- Curriculum, Play and Creative Studies

Entry Requirements:
- Successful completion of interview.
- Candidates must be in a position to obtain Garda Clearance from the National Vetting Bureau.
- International students must also provide Police vetting from the country/ countries where they previously lived.
- Leaving Certificate/ Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent (NFQ Level 4) or an interview and a short piece of writing.
- Applicants whose first language is not English need to have a B2 competence in an English language test (Contact us to make arrangements).
- Candidates must supply two written references (character, work or educational).
- Students must also obtain practical work experience in a Tusla recognised childcare/ early years education facility one day per week for a minimum of 150 hours.

Progression:
Employment in a variety of education and care settings within Irish and International childcare sectors. This award facilitates direct entry on a competitive basis to a range of Third Level Institutions nationwide leading to awards at the next or higher levels of the National Framework of Qualifications.
